George Washington (22 February 1732 – 14 December 1799) was the successful Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783, and later became the first President of the United States of America, an office to which he was elected, unanimously, twice and remained in from 1789 to 1797. He is generally regarded as the "Father of his country".
